Themes of Hamlet
The Impossibility of Certainty
The play ,Hamlet, has many points in the story-line in which we ask, and the characters within Hamlet ask, "Am I certain that..." Hamlet isn't always certain. When Hamlet is approached by the Ghost, he wonders "The spirit that I have seen may be a devil; and the devil hath power. T' assume a pleasing shape" He isn't certain about the Ghosts honesty. Can we be certain of the crime without any witnesses? Is Hamlet really going mad or is it just an act?
Revenge
Revenge is a major theme in this play. In one play there are 3 different "Sons of Deceased Fathers" seeking revenge on the killer. Hamlet seeks revenge on his uncle, Claudius whom killed his father by pouring poison through the ear. Then there's Fortinbras, whom seeks revenge on , the already dead, Hamlet who killed his father, also Fortinbras. And then there's Laertes, who gets revenge on Hamlet whom stabbed his Father through a tapestry.
